Beginning to run out of patience.
Reviewer: Anonymous       04-06-2007
At first I enjoyed using the facilities offered by Angelfire but recently I have run into problems. At some times of the day, images take ages to download, leaving spaces and white rectangles where the photos should be. Anglefire tell me this is a problem that they are addressing, but it has gone on for weeks. I feel as though they aren't bothered that my website is disfunctional a lot of the time.

I'm switching to Yahoo web hosting because they offer double the web space
Reviewer: mohammed       03-18-2006
I'm switching to Yahoo web hosting because they offer double the web space, more bandwidth, and for a fraction of the cost. If your site grows and the free account is no longer suitable, then I recomend yahoo hosting. They have a toll-free tech support line that sure beats webmonkey. As for disk space, well, lycos offer 500MB for about $20 and Yahoo offers 20 GB for about the same price + all the e-commerce resources you need. Thats right, no more paypals, and the headache of e-commerce intergration.

Just going on the occasional website hosted by them makes me sick.

Just going on the occasional website hosted by them makes me sick. The adds simply annoy you before you've read half the web page. I strongly recommend not making a website on this host.

    This site is okay.
Reviewer: ryan       03-18-2006
This site is okay. I gave it a six because it only has that one banner ad at the top and doesn't have excessive pop ups. The uploading is cool and its user friendly. The downside is that you have that LONG url and that is not good for when you are telling someone to check your site out. They'd probably would be like "nevermind" by the time you got to the /dir/ part. Otherwise, its cool!

This webhost used to be good.
Reviewer: Darren       03-18-2006
This webhost used to be good. Ermm.. okay okay used to be decent.. about a year ago, you had the choice of whether you wanted your ads in popup or on your page, now you don't have that choice and you get both, on your page and in popups.

And now Angelfire and Tripod for that matter, have this newly super annoying search window that they embed on to your browser if you're on IE. (not sure about netscape and the other ones). It takes up a bit of space on your screen and even if you close it on the first page, it will keep popping up every time you navigate to another page.

If you don't plan on having a lot of visitors, or mainly as an archive, you might consider this webhost.
There are times where the lycos server is on pms and you can't upload/edit files as fast as you could.

FTP usage is good, one of the only positive points about this webhost.

Right now, I'm looking to move my angelfire page elsewhere. One can only stand so much popups and ads and... search windows.

I've been with AF for many years.

"I've been with AF for many years. It's continually gotten worse."
Hear, hear. It used to be good. USED TO BE. Now it stinks. I don't know whether my tastes have improved or Angelfire has gotten worse, but it's probably a mixture of the two. The plan naming scheme is kinda cool, but it doesn't support CGI (for the free plan), the banners are unbearable, etc, etc.

Currently this host is lying to new signups.
Reviewer: Brendan       03-18-2006
Currently this host is lying to new signups. It states quite clearly "Members of our Free service are required to host ads (choice of pop-up or on-the-page ads) on their pages..."
This quote is located at:

I've been with AF for many years. It's continually gotten worse. I'm very actively looking for a new host. I was shocked to find that when I went to my site (with JavaScript enabled) that there was four (4) areas of ads *on each page*.
One banner at the top (which was incorrectly coded so it covered my navigation), two (2) banners at the bottom, and a pop-up. The storage went from 5 megs to 50 megs to 20 megs. Poor customer service (I e-mailed to ask about the ads and they told me how to change my password). Would only recommend for a beginner or as a beta testing server. Would strongly caution against joining if you want a good impression for your visitors.

All I can say is... "URRRGH!!!
Reviewer: Simon       03-18-2006
All I can say is... "URRRGH!!!"
Ok, I'll say more than that.
I *thought* this was a decent free site.
I *thought* I could live with the banner ads at the top AND bottom of each of my pages.
I *thought* I was being smart by meticulously adding enough page-breaks to move my site content more or less away from those gawdy, flashing bars.

Until TODAY, when I went to my site, was checking out one of my images, and then, *BAM!* - a bright yellow Expedia.com banner ad suddenly appeared _ON TOP OF_ one of the images I had in the MIDDLE of my page! There is no way to close OR to even MOVE the stupid thing, either - it just sticks there like neon vomit a few seconds after the page loads, and it appears on EVERY page of my site! After all the hours I've laboured on my site making it look good..?!?

What are these losers doing??? Did they notice how much space I was putting between their stunning ads and the actual content of my site..!?! PATHETIC, people!!!

I thought Yahoo!/Geocities had gotten bad, but at least you can CLOSE their ads (annoying as they are), and they stay at the tope of the page! I'm glad I already have my pages mirrored on THEIR site until I'm able to locate one that's better.

Man, I miss the mid-90s with REAL free web-hosting! : (

This is a great website host for newbie web designers.
Reviewer: Peter       03-18-2006
This is a great website host for newbie web designers. If you have very little knowledge on how to make a website and just want to play around with it, definitely go for this one. I used to have at least 15 angelfire webpages when i was a kid and it got me started on the path to professional web design.

Although if you are a professional web designer and/or want a professional looking site, definitely DO NOT use this one because you will be guaranteed not to get anyone outside of your family looking at it.

    Angelfire is alright
Reviewer: Riki       03-18-2006
Angelfire is alright; used to be better until now. Now you don't have the option to choose b/w banners and pop-ups. This isn't good at all b/c at least before you could block pop-ups with a little javascript. While popups can still be blocked you now automatically get banner ads on every page. Looks pretty ugly. You can never use frames b/c of banner ads messing it up, but who uses frames anyways? Frames are old and bothersome, a table is 100 times as effective as frames. Would reccomend for beginners.

I have had my pages here since 2000
Reviewer: Daryl       03-18-2006
I have had my pages here since 2000, but am looking for a new home. At first, I had a choice of one banner per page or one popup per page. Now, both are mandatory. I have a 20-page diary there, so this is too much. Banner ads + popups = slow website = avoided. Good to learn on, but also teaches the drawbacks of popups.

Have been with Angelfire for almost 7 years now
Reviewer: Ben       03-18-2006
Have been with Angelfire for almost 7 years now - in the beginning they didn't require popups, but now they barely offer pages BENEATH the popups! Went from 5mb to 50mb to 20mb, and the editor has changed so many times it's very hard to keep track of the changes. Have too many files to move, but am actively seeking other options. Best (now) for small sites.

    Popups. And more popups.
Reviewer: Damian       03-18-2006
Popups. And more popups. Who wants to visit a website with a billion ads popping up in your face? Click your favorite color, etc. Hahaha. It was once good but then along came lycos with a jingling money bag, and Angelfire went popup crazy. Nawww... I think not. Soon as I find a better site I'm outta there. Not recommended except for the rankest newbie. No offense, newbie.:)

    A pretty good webhost.
Reviewer: Micheal       03-18-2006
A pretty good webhost. the good things:
- Easy. You don't need to know HTML at all, although it does help.
- Fairly short web adress. (Www. angelfire.com/dir/you)
- Pretty easy to understand.
- Many choices for text and backround.
- Hefty space. I have 5 loaded pages and only 0.03 MB / 20 MB has been used, so i guess you can make MANY, MANY, MANY pages.
The Bads:
- They say they are FAST. Are you joking me? They are slow.
- Popups. There are ALOT of these almost blanketing your site.
- Links. It's a pain here. They don't make the Navigation bar for you, meaning you have to do lots of extra work.

It was the 1st webhost that I used when I 1st started off my single page website more than 3 years ago.
Reviewer: John       03-18-2006
//-----------| A Little History |---------

It was the 1st webhost that I used when I 1st started off my single page website more than 3 years ago. The storage space has been changing. It increased to 50mb at 1 time & then decreased to 20mb currently. Nobody knows when will it change again.

Then, I used the same account for my personal homepage with more 20mb of files. There was never a problem with the bandwidth & I used to think it was unlimited.

//-----------| Currently |---------

I could no longer withstand the popups with my growing site. Loading takes ages since I started off. Even their homepage takes ages to load sometimes, especially when you 1st visit it (without cache yet).

They didn't state the bandwidth limit, at least I couldn't find it till now. However I do surf websites hosted by them & the bandwidth doesn't seem to be high.

I have 2 accounts with them currently because I have switched to other webhosts. They didn't remove me even though the storage are completely empty.

//-----------| Recommendation |---------

Please don't ever use this host if you're using frames. The popups will kill your visitors; the banner will spoil your design on every frame.

However, please note that many free webhosts do have banners or popups, as annoying as Angelfire's.

I recommend this free host only to beginners with a small site.

I think it's an excellent host for people who are just starting out.
Reviewer: Kevin       03-18-2006
I think it's an excellent host for people who are just starting out. My major disliking is the popups. If you choose to have a banner ad, you assume that that will be the only ad on your website, but unfortunately you'll get popups with it.

They changed the amount of space from 50MB to 20MB without telling me.
Reviewer: Carlos       03-18-2006
They changed the amount of space from 50MB to 20MB without telling me. I've used them for too long now and am looking for another host. I probably wouldn't recommend Angelfire - even logging out is a struggle sometimes.

    I love Angelfire.

I love Angelfire. Today I took photos of the USS Midway and had them up in 15 minutes. I wish that all website hosts had simple site builders as good as Angelfire.

    Owned by lycos network
Reviewer: PogoClassics       03-17-2006
Owned by lycos network. Angelfire like tripod has cut free accounts by more than half. They used to provide 50 megs of space. Now after bringing it to their attention that I had 50 megs and asked if the plus membership would be in addition to, they now inform me I have 30 days to reduce my storage to accomodate their slashing my space by 30 megs. They then expect me to still wish to pay for a plus account and only receive half of what I had before I mentioned it. They are not friendly and hard to contact for support. When I have contacted them, I have not received any "help".

They sell pop ups & banner ads

Where do I start?!! Just dont even bother with these guys because, like heck theyre gonna bother with you!! I have never been happy with angelfire, from day one. All you get are banners ALL over the IMPORTANT parts of your site that sell the most horrible, unapproving things! They dont listen when you need help but when you make a mistake, they're on you quick as flies to a pile of.... well you get my gist...!

Angelfire has highly intrusive banner adverts
Reviewer: ianmacm       03-17-2006
Angelfire has highly intrusive banner adverts which can spoil the layout of pages and make them appear different from the way that they were designed. The 20MB disk space is not very generous considering the amount of ads displayed, and the only plus point is that the service is easy to use and reliable.

    Their pop-ups are the worst.
Reviewer: tvtator       03-17-2006
Their pop-ups are the worst. When I go to an angelfire site, I can't get to it, I get the pop-ads, it's very annoying. I tried using Angelfire once to build a website and was very frustrated, it was of no use.
