 Poor MS SQL Server
Reviewer: Anonymous   2010-04-14
If you website based on the MS SQL DB dont go godaddy... they can run 100s of DBs in a single server.

 Hosting average, email not.
Reviewer: Anonymous   2008-11-06
We left Godaddy after seven or so years when their email protection policies began blocking two thirds of our client mail due to what appears to be improper application of black list spam rules. We were unable to explain to the otherwise very courteous and willing support techs that we needed our mail.

 Fast, cheap, excellent service

I bought a domain and web hosting in the past week. I needed customer service 3 times (to change things, and help me figure out how to log in to my MYSQL db.) Phone wait times were usually less than 1 minute, never more than 3. Each time, the person knew exacly what to do and was very knowledgeable. I think their support is terrific. Web hosting w/5 GB storage and 250GB monthly bandwidth for $85/3 years seems like a mighty good deal to me. It was easy to take all the HTML, php, and my sql code I had running on my own server and upload it to them and get it running again. Took less than a day to completely get it working. I don\\\'t understand the complaint about \\

 Godaddy Review
Reviewer: SL Tate   2007-10-03
I have been using hosting services for almost 3 years now. I spent over a month trying to find a web host provider, - I printed out comparison charts, called a few to see what the support was like - I called Hostgator on a Saturday and got somebody in a different country that spoke a different language - tried 2 out to test the waters - 1and1 and ixhosting. I ended up at Godaddy and really liked the convenience of their control panel and ease of use. As I added more sites to my portfolio - I wanted to update to a bigger plan - I researched and ended up at Godaddy and got a Virtual Server - now I have a Dedicated Server and still use Godaddy - but what I actually have is a reseller account with Wild West Domains so that I get a steeper discount since I own hundreds of domains. Plus I sell to others occasionaly. I even tried Hostgator but because I ran a couple of scripts that caused the web server service to stop, but the services at Hostgator was awful, so I moved the site back to Godaddy with the Server I was using. So, I stuck with Godaddy and will stay with them. If you plan to have several hundred domains, just get a reseller account and sell to yourself - it\\\'s worth it. Godaddy is the best in the biz. Most of the reviews shown here are old. It\\\'s September 2007, and perhaps a few things over at Godaddy have changed. I signed up not one but four deluxe hosted web sites with them several months ago on a shared Windows based hosting plan. I paid for the sites at home, and used my office computer to access my account. Sometimes I work from home, sometimes from the office. Different IP addresses. They did not cancel my accounts for fraud. As we\\\'re setting up Ecommerce websites, I\\\'ve been dealing heavily with MS-SQL 2005 and ASP.NET 2.0 and AJAX. We\\\'ve had no major problems, other than a few advanced features not being properly supported on a shared hosting plan (such as the broker service for SqlCacheDependency notifications). No big deal, we just wrote a work-around for that. Once the sites grow to the point where being on a shared hosting plan is a problem, we should be profitable enough to upgrade to a virtual or dedicated server. I\\\'ve had numerous dealings with Godaddy\\\'s tech support, and they\\\'ve always answered my questions in detail within 4 hours.

Account Cancelled Due to European IP Address!
Reviewer: Anonymous   2006-12-03
I had the same problem as others mentioned above. I registered my account with them using a US credit card and billing address (both legit). But because I was doing this on a computer in Germany, they froze my account and demanded to see copies of my passport or driver\\\'s license before unfreezing it (ever heard of identity theft, guys?!?!?). When I refused, they credited me, then immediately re-billed me. I\\\'ve been trying to get a refund to two months, with no success.

 Suspected Credit Card Fraud
Reviewer: Kolja Leo   2006-10-08
I registered some domains with godaddy, one even through customer service as they had problems with their website. One day later I received an mail informing me that I m suspected of fraud. They cancelled everything and said they will refund the money. Very horrible provider and I wish I would have choosen another one. This company is nothing worth at all.

 limited sql server access
Reviewer: Anonymous   2006-07-14
I recently signed up for a godaddy hosting account because they supported sql server. Unfortunately they don\\\'t let you connect directly to the database so managing it is all through their console which is a real pain if you have more than a couple tables. They really need to document this so folks don\\\'t waste their time.

Reviewer: chris   2006-02-13
No problems, straight foward hosting and domain from them. Cheap, and so far, very reliable. No problems whatsoever. Would reccomend to users who have no complex issues, not to those who need customer service support.Apparently, they're not exactly famous for it.

Reviewer: bmdavis   2006-02-13
GoDaddy seems to offer a lot, but much of it does not come to fruition. 24/7 phone, but HORRID email support, a bad control panel, and too many advertisements when you log in. Support often involved referring me to a link from external websites. Pages did not load quickly in certain areas of states, and in other areas of the world pages failed to load. I recommend NOT wasting your time with Godaddy.

Godaddy.com has a cheap price, but their support is horrid. They didn't even try to fix the problem I had. My site went dead after I installed an SSL certificate from godaddy. I emailed them. First they told me to wait. Then when I emailed them back after waiting 2 days (with no website!), they told me it was not their fault and I should email starfieldtech--who issues the certificates to godaddy. I emailed them, and was rightly told by them that it was godaddy's problem. So here I am, 4 days on without a website, losing money. I am still waiting on a useful response from godaddy.com Avoid godaddy.com at all costs. By the way, my website is http://www.everydayinvestor.com . I had to open up another hosting account with a new domain name so I could still be online during this problem. So using godaddy has already cost me over $100 in losses.

virtual server went down after reboot.
Reviewer: ctl   2006-02-13
virtual server went down after reboot. No email response for 2 hours to ticket request about being offline. After talking with customer service on the phone, they said the local tech determined 'the system was really messed up' and would need to be reinstalled or looked at, either way it was going to cost more than just cancelling the service and re-enrolling. Either way, all data on the system would be lost. Fortunately, most of the data was staged there from an outside repository. i chose to cancel and get the rest of my $400 back. I promised to re-enroll but am currently looking for other providers.

Reviewer: Alex   2006-02-13
I don't know what everyone else is talking about, I have had nothing but good expireinces with go daddy, I use the virtual dedicated server and will probably upgrade to full dedicated, but I have had no problems and also think that they have fairly good tech support, I also run a website, a teamspeak server, a Mirc server, and soon a few game servers, but overall, I highly reccommend this host.

two months in, my experience with godaddy has generally been good.
Reviewer: Abhinav   2006-02-13
two months in, my experience with godaddy has generally been good. Apart from the slighty lazy customer service, who at times don't bother to reply, the hosting has been very good, since most of my needs are simple like running a wordpress blog and phpBB forum. For it's prices, godaddy is doing an excellent job. Keep it up !

The prices on Domain names are great.
Reviewer: LO   2006-02-13
The prices on Domain names are great. Prices for their standard and "deluxe" web hosting plans are at the low end -- but beware here! What you get is a very low-level and limited service. If you have a simple personal page, this cheap service may work for you. BUT if you are running a more complex site, if you need to create password protected directories, or if will use the site for business or ecommerce applications, then DO NOT use this low-end service provider. Your account will have access to ONLY your html web root -- no directory above this public root is provided. GoDaddy provides NO control panel application (something every other provide will offer). The "tool page" they do offer is less than rudimentary, and cluttered with advertising that obscures any real functionality. They DO NOT even provide the standard php MySQL tools that you will find on just about any other Unix/Linux host service. Customer Service? You will get a quick contact with a very low-level employee. But if your problem is in the least bit technical it is unlikely to be resolved. My experience: I have set up innumerable Unix hosts, and still had trouble on the GoDaddy site configuring standard .htaccess and .htpasswd files. After three telephone calls to tech support, and after having to explaining the rudimentaries of what these files were to tech support personnel, I was finally told I would have to pay $300 to speak to higher level tech support for resolution of my problem -- a problem with could have been resolve in two minutes of conversation with someone familiar with Unix/Apache servers. At this point, I simply moved my account to a real hosting service. Summary: Cheap. If you do not need much, then it may be enough. There is no control panel. And you will not get "technical" support with technical problems.

GoDaddy is known for their low cost domain purchases but not too long ago they've added many more web features.
Reviewer: Alti   2006-02-13
GoDaddy is known for their low cost domain purchases but not too long ago they've added many more web features. One of them is web hosting. The only thing I liked about GoDaddy hosting is that it was CHEAP and RELIABLE. I was only with them for about 3-4 so I'm not going to rave about reliability. Their webmail program was pretty good too (unlike squirrelmail, neomail and other low quality webmail programs). The bad things about GoDaddy hosting was the access to the domain features. The email creation was confusing and the site was way to busy with advertising. Worst of all, you had no access to install your own CGI scripts or any other type of script (which they said you could, but I don't see how because of lack of access to installing and scripts and using CHMOD). If you simply just want a cheap hosting company with reliability, with a few personal web pages, GoDaddy hosting is for you. If you are remotely close to being an amateur web developer or simply want better control over your website functions, then they are definitely not for you. Their email support is fairly quick (up to a few hours at most) but you have to pay a fee around $8 just to talk to them over the phone, even if it's 20 seconds. Also, you can't call them, they have to contact you and you better be home or else if they can't contact you, you just lost $8. Stick to GoDaddy for domain name purchases only if at all possible.

I swear never to work with go daddy. They cancel your hosting account if they suspect credit card fraud. And when do they suspect you ? When you purchase a hosting account through one computer and you enable this account through another computer. So these guys see two different ip addresses. There\'s where they decide to cancel your account. To prevent this is used the good as gold plan. But the same thing happened, because i use a laptop and a pc. Now they have kicked out two of my sites. I\'m telling ya no matter what i did they refuse to set up my hosting account. There\'s no way i will use their service. They\'re just too young in this bussiness and therefore should be avoided.

I hosted my 1 page site with them. When my credit card lapsed I submitted another. But my page had gone and to get it back (single htm file) they wanted $150. I am not joking. 2 things to consider. They do not have an option for you to backup your site on your computer and their web building software

I have had both good and bad experiences with GoDaddy. A year or so ago, their server went down for three days or so and they couldn\'t tell me when it would be up again. I swore I\'d never deal with them again. However, you can\'t beat them on price. They don\'t offer a lot of bells and whistles. Their user support can be helpful at times, other times not so great. Don\'t expect them to help you link up non-GoDaddy applications with your GoDaddy host. I\'m using them now, and it seems to be going OK.

The godaddy customer service was awful. I have a godaddy account and manage several domains with godaddy. I had a problem where godaddy charged my credit card for services they did not perform. I sent eight (8) emails to godaddy explaining the situation and asked them to refund my credit card and they would not honor a refund. I think they are not running an honest business. I would not recommend godadddy to anyone. Their website is confusing where it is difficult to tell if you are logged into your account when accessing services and features. godaddy charges users credit cards and then does not perform the service.

Reviewer: Anonymous   2005-12-31
GoDaddy is not a bad value, but lacks a lot of features that competitors offer for virtually the same price. GoDaddy offers 500MB of disk space storage, 100 email accounts, 25 GB monthly data transfer, and limited on languages/platform support. Many other web hosting providers offer more for less. All plans with GoDaddy include these features: World Class Data Center, online set-up and instant account activation, FrontPage Extensions, 24/7 FTP Access, best-of-breed routers, firewalls and servers; Web Site Statistics, free setup, daily backups, 24/7 monitoring, 24x7 email, telephone and web-based tech support, 24/7 physical security and secure SSL Certificates (an optional extra) GoDaddy places their emphasis more on technology than on customer support.

GoDaddy is not too difficult to use, even without a technical background. Most functions within the Account Management tool are similar to other control panels, but GoDaddy.com’s panel lacks certain features that competitors offer. On the plus side, with GoDaddy.com you can perform account management tasks, email management, web security, database setup and management, manage statistic tools and install FrontPage Extensions (without these supported by your host, you can’t take advantage of all the perks FrontPage offers).

Customer Service is what separates great hosts from the mediocre. GoDaddy offers an array of support options, such as Email Support, Telephone Support, an FAQ Section on their Web Site and access to various user guides. Unfortunately, there are a few items that are definite drawbacks with their Customer Service. If you use their Email Support, you will not get a response for 10 to 12 hours. Too long for most customers! GoDaddy even posts this right on their Web Site. I wouldn’t be boasting about a 10 to 12 hour response time. If you don’t want to wait for an email, there phone support is a little better. The average waiting period we experienced was 30 minutes. This is still too long of a wait and much longer than the wait we experienced with other web hosting companies that we reviewed. The tech I finally did speak with was not well-informed about the products or services offered and not eager to help. Unfortunately, Go Daddy does not offer live chat, a valuable customer service tool that allows you to receive instant help online.
