i've had a dedicated server at hostmysite since 2003. one of the main problems is that they do not seem to have special support procedures for dedicated server customers - everyone gets thrown in the same pool. this just doesnt work because when you are on a dedicated server the range and complexity of the problems you could need help with is greatly increased. i've had their techs go into my server and make BIG mistakes about three or four times already. mistakes so bad that they have had to give me a discount or even a free month to make up for it. some of those mistakes (such as unnecessarily and without requesting confirmation their tech went and reset the custom NTFS permissions in place for every site on my server) i am still recovering from. network hickups are rare but do happen.

in the past year or so their tech support response times have gone from very good to very poor. it takes hours for them to even acknowledge a trouble ticket, maybe a couple days to act on it and sometimes a week before an issue is resolved. it didnt use to be that way, and it might just be a result of their growth.

if you need 100% uptime coupled with fast/always professional support go with RackSpace (be ready to pay a premium though). Rackspace delivers an unparalleled dedicated server customer experience. Hostmysite folks are honest and good people, but they are just trying to deliver on their promise, and tech support has been getting worse in the past year.
